Auburn State Theatre Moves to Next Stage of Restoration
Exciting news on our beloved Auburn State Theatre’s Restoration Project! We continue to work with our insurance company to provide funds for our losses, with positive results. The Structural Engineer’s plans for truss repairs have been submitted and are in the permitting process; the manufacturing and installation of truss repairs will take approximately three months to complete.
We have engaged an architectural firm that specializes in performing arts venues. They will help us determine the feasibility of various options we have been exploring – whether to keep the Auditorium the same size with improvements and upgrades to the facility or expand to a larger footprint with more seating. We are also conducting a business analysis to determine the best path forward in serving our community. Despite our best efforts, we do not anticipate reopening until sometime in 2025.
We continue to present a lineup of great films at Odd Fellows and other venues, and our State Theatre Acting Company (STAC) continues to present their popular radio shows at First Congregational Church. Community partnerships are vital to all of us in Auburn and we are fortunate to have some of the best!
Please “Save the Date” for our annual Cocktails & Cinema fundraiser on Saturday, June 8, 2024. We will once again host a street party in front of the Theatre and enjoy great food, drink, music, and entertainment. Thank you to all who continue to support us during this project. To honor John “Snowshoe” Thompson, the History Expedition team attempted a never before attempted 100-mile winter crossing on foot, snowshoes and skis, across the Sierra Mountains from Placerville, CA to Genoa, NV, retracing his inaugural Jan 3rd, 1856, mail carrying route.
