“Improvisation” From Jazz to Hip Hop

Hosted by J Ross Parrelli & Jim Kepfer

J Ross is a Universal signed artist and member of the Auburn Union School District Board of Education. J Ross Parrelli’s repertoire includes rap battles and festival stages from the Bronx to the Bay. Sultry songstress turned community cultivator, Parrelli has spoken and performed at youth leadership conferences all over the globe. Her interest in education reform led her to co-found Beats, Lyrics, Leaders through which she is developing Hip Hop based curriculum piloted in schools, foster youth programs, military academies, and native reservations. Currently J. Ross is working with EV Cain to build a youth ran record label, called Gold Records.

Jim Kepfer is a teacher and an accomplished musician. Mr Kepfer began teaching music in Auburn and has taught at EV Cain Middle School, Bowman, and Northside Schools. Jim currently directs the music program at EV Cain Middle School and teaches music at Alta Vista, Auburn Elementary, Rock Creek, and Skyridge Schools. An avid runner, Jim also coaches the EV Cain track and cross-country teams. Jim played trumpet in the Auburn Symphony for 10 seasons, under the direction of Clyde Quick and the late Michael Goodwin. He has also played trumpet in the pit orchestra for many local musicals, such as Oklahoma, South Pacific, Grease, and The Music Man. Jim is also familiar with community bands, having played with the Nevada County Concert Band and Conducted for the Auburn Winds.
